On March 20, 2018 South Beloit citizens will have the opportunity to vote on a referendum authorizing building a new library. The building would be located at the Confluence Campus and would hold both the city hall and the library. The $4.9 million bond issue would allow the library to expand from just over 4,000 square feet to almost 12,000 square feet. It would include additional space of over 5000 square feet that would be jointly used by both the city and library.
Working together with the city takes advantage of economic efficiencies and synergies by sharing spaces for meetings, programming, parking, and public facilities.
Public informational meetings are planned to showcase the building project and to answer questions so that all citizens can go to the polls informed. Public meets are scheduled for February 20th at the South Beloit Public Library, February 28th at Prairie Hill School, and March 8th at the Nature at the Confluence Learning Center. All meetings are at 6:30 pm. More information is available here.
